Early Childhood Education and Special Education

The Early Childhood Education (PreK-4) and Special Education (PreK-8) program aims to prepare professionals in the education of all children, including exceptional children and youth who will be scholarly in their academic pursuits. The program is designed to develop ethical scholar-practitioners who will be committed to social justice, capable of working with diverse populations in a variety of social and cultural contexts and prepared to serve in a variety of professional roles. The assessment techniques and strategies used in the education of exceptional children, research-based methodologies and instruction, and program evaluation are major components of the program.

学生教学

Those interested in obtaining the Pennsylvania Department of Education certification must complete the following 学生教学 课程:

  • EDU 501 (12 credits) - if not currently a classroom teacher; or
  • EDU 503 (6 credits) - if currently a classroom teacher.

申请认证, students must pass all three (3) Early Childhood Education (ECE), and two (2) Special Education (SEPD) modules of the Pennsylvania Educator Certification Tests (PECT) at the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) cut score or qualifying score (based on GPA).

Students are required to maintain and provide state clearances as defined by the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) before matriculation.

  • Pennsylvania State Police Criminal 历史 Record
  • Tuberculosis (TB) Test Documentation

  • Personal Statement: In 300-500 words, address future goals based on the selected graduate program.
  • Letters of Recommendation: Submit two (2) professional letters of recommendation speaking to your character and motivation to work in the education field.
  • Résumé: A current professional résumé is required.

The MED program will accept up to six graduate school credits in the field of Education from an accredited institution, providing each course is completed with a GPA of 3.0或以上.
